This weekend the streets of Downtown Los Angeles were filled with pedestrians. I was excited to Metro into Downtown and see a lack of cars in corridors that are ordinarily bustling with the sounds of engines.
For a day, families were riding bicycles down Broadway with dogs, cats, and boomboxes in tow. I was so excited to see that cicLAvia (www.ciclavia.org), the nonprofit organization behind these pedestrian-empowering activities, had organized a 'Theatre District' hub along the bicycle route. They partnered with the Los Angeles Historic Theatre Foundation (www.lahtf.org) to provide access and tours to some of Downtown's most notorious empty classics, including the Tower and Los Angeles Theatres.
