A Year in Review

By Katie Rispoli, Executive Director

If anyone had told me a year ago that in 2015 this little organization would relocate two historic buildings, work with five city governments and Los Angeles County, partner up with one of the nation's largest fast food corporations to save their first ever location, participate in three public festivals, and organize field trips and classroom learning workshops for middle school students - I most likely wouldn't have believed them. Looking back, it seems astonishing that our small staff of two has accomplished so much.

We've made a difference in 2015 - but most importantly we've gained momentum. With support from the Durfee Foundation and the Downtown Long Beach Associates, 2016 is going to be an incredible year. And we're starting it off right - beginning in January our team will begin operating out a brand new office at 1205 Pine Avenue in Long Beach. This new space not only allows us to grow developmentally by bringing us to a new corner of a city we love, it gives us room to grow our team as well. 2016 will be filled with growth for We Are the Next - growth into a cornerstone organization cities know that they can rely on to care for their historic resources, and growth into a stronger partner for education agencies and local schools to help their students learn about the built environment.

It's because of loyal supporters like yourself we're able to change the dynamic of preservation in the Los Angeles region. Thank you for your enthusiasm in 2015, and we look forward to a new year with new and even bolder ideas.
