Youth Heritage Summit California

Program Overview

The National Park Service (NPS) created the Youth Heritage Summit program to spur a love for historic sites within high school students across the country. Since 2010, the NPS has funded the program in Colorado and Washington State. In 2015, We Are the Next began working with NPS leaders to bring the program to California. In July of 2016, We Are the Next hosted California's first full-length Youth Heritage Summit (YHS) at Cesar E. Chavez National Monument.

Through this program, we encouraged students with a budding interest in history, arts, and culture to develop that interest into a lifelong passion. Students in the program spent time with leaders in our nation's history, local activists, and industry professionals to learn new artistic methods and get a glimpse into what it takes to run a national monument.
